A chauffeur sedan carries 3 passengers on the rear bench and 2 large suitcases in the boot. A three-row SUV such as the GMC Yukon takes 6 passengers and 3 large cases, so a family of 5 and its luggage fit in one car. The two-row SUVs keep the sedan’s 3 rear seats but add boot space: Porsche lists 772 L for the Cayenne.

Three rows or two

Six models have a third row: the Escalade, Yukon, Suburban, Patrol, GLS and X7. Book one of these for 4 to 6 passengers. The GLS and X7 are listed for 5 passengers and 2 large cases, a smaller load than the three American SUVs and the Patrol carry.

Four models keep two rows: the Range Rover, Lexus LX 600, Porsche Cayenne and G-Class. They seat 3 in the rear, like a sedan, with room for 2 or 3 large cases. Choose them when the party is small and the car itself matters, such as a VIP arrival or an evening at a hotel on the Palm.

The two SUVs Assure runs itself

The Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon are Assure’s own cars, so a booking needs only a free car on your date, not a partner’s reply. Both makers list 722 L behind the third row and up to 8 seats. Assure seats 6 passengers to keep room for 3 large suitcases and 2 cabin bags.

Cadillac lists a 38-speaker AKG sound system, Air Ride suspension and dual 12.6-inch rear screens among the Escalade’s equipment. GMC offers the Yukon Denali with a rear-seat media system on 12.6-inch screens and two sets of headphones. Equipment differs from car to car, so ask if one item matters to you. Luggage: where the SUVs differ most

Behind the third row, space runs from 722 L in the standard Escalade and Yukon to about 1,175 L in the Chevrolet Suburban and the long Escalade ESV. That gap is worth 2 large suitcases: the Suburban is listed for 5, the Yukon for 3. Among the two-row SUVs, the Range Rover lists 818 L behind its second row, and its Executive Class rear seats cut into that figure.

Six passengers with 4 large cases is where most SUVs run out of room. The Suburban still takes it. Otherwise the vans with sliding doors take over, starting with the Mercedes-Benz V-Class and its 4 large cases.
