BMW fits the X7 with 7 seats as standard, counting the driver’s. A 6-seat layout is an option, with two electric captain’s chairs in place of the second-row bench. Assure books either version for 5 passengers, so the boot keeps room for 2 large suitcases and 1 cabin bag.
- Good fit: 2 business travellers with 2 cases who prefer a BMW to a sedan.
- Good fit: a family of 4 with 2 large cases, the children in the second row.
- Poor fit: anyone with more than 2 large suitcases, or 2 large cases plus 2 cabin bags. The Mercedes-Benz GLS takes the extra cabin bag. The GMC Yukon takes 3 large cases.

Can I ask for the captain's chairs?
Yes, ask when you book. The 6-seat X7 replaces the second-row bench with two individual captain's chairs, each adjusted electrically. It is an option, so a partner car may have either layout. The partner confirms which one is free on your date, and you hear back on WhatsApp before you commit.
Is the X7 or the GLS better for luggage?
