NOC letter for a visa from the UAE: salary certificate, bank statement and bookings

Most embassies ask UAE residents for the same core file: a passport and residence permit with enough validity left, an employer NOC or salary certificate, recent bank statements, flight and hotel reservations, and travel insurance where required. The exact list, wording and age of each paper comes from your embassy's own checklist.

Which documents do almost all embassies ask for?

Treat this as a starting file, then replace it with the checklist from your own embassy.

  • Passport with blank pages and enough validity.
  • UAE residence permit and Emirates ID copies.
  • Employer NOC or salary certificate.
  • Recent bank statements.
  • Flight and hotel reservations.
  • Passport photos to the embassy’s size.
  • Travel insurance where the country requires it.

The UK, Canada, the US and China publish their own lists: GOV.UK, IRCC, the US Embassy and the China visa centre in Dubai. We could not extract the exact wording of each, so read them directly.

How much validity must your residence permit have?

Each destination sets its own rule and states it on its embassy page. We have not quoted a universal figure because there is not one. If the permit is close to expiry, renew it before you apply. Our visa pages for Canada, the UK, the US and Japan link the official requirements.

NOC or salary certificate: what the letter should say

An NOC says your employer knows about the trip and expects you back. A salary certificate states your pay. Some embassies want one, some both. A good letter has:

  1. Company letterhead, signed and stamped.
  2. Your full name, passport number, job title and start date.
  3. The dates you will be away.
  4. A statement that your job continues on return.
  5. A contact name and phone number for the embassy to verify.

Keep the date recent, because embassies reject old letters.

Self-employed, investors and dependants

Business owners usually add a trade licence, and dependants add a letter from the sponsor. The detail varies by embassy, so take it from the official checklist. A cover letter helps here: explain what the business is, who pays for the trip and why you will return.

Bank statements

Embassies set the number of months and some require a bank stamp. Request statements late, so they end close to the application date. Your Dubai bank can usually issue stamped copies at a branch.

Flight and hotel reservations

Consulates warn against falsified bookings and insurance, and a dummy ticket you cannot verify risks a refusal. Use real reservations with a reference the airline or hotel can confirm, and pick fares and rooms that cancel free of charge if the visa is refused. Our Schengen guide on choosing the embassy explains why your bookings must match the country you apply to.

Travel insurance

For Schengen, Article 15 of the Visa Code sets the minimum cover at EUR 30,000, valid across the Schengen states for the entire stay. See the Schengen visa page and, for a Spanish application, check the country page.

Cover letter

You need one only if the embassy asks or your file needs explaining. Keep it to a page: purpose, dates, who pays, and ties to the UAE.

If your passport opens doors without a visa, see visa-free countries for UAE residents. UK, US and Canada authorisations are in the electronic travel authorisation guide. For the day you fly, read Dubai airport departure timing, and book an airport transfer so the folder reaches the terminal. The UAE visas explained hub links every guide.

Questions and answers

Which documents do embassies ask UAE residents for?

Nearly all ask for a passport, your UAE residence permit, an employer letter, bank statements, flight and hotel reservations and a photo. Schengen states also require travel insurance. The list, the number of months of statements and the format differ, so use the checklist on your embassy or application-centre page.

What should an NOC letter say?

State your name, passport number, job title and start date, the dates you will be away, and that the employer expects you back. Print it on company letterhead, sign it, date it recently and name a contact. Some embassies want it to mention salary. Follow your embassy's wording if it publishes any.

How many months of bank statements do I need?

It depends on the embassy. Each one sets its own number, and some want them stamped by the bank while others accept online statements. We could not confirm one figure that applies everywhere, so read the checklist for your destination and request statements as late as you can.

Can I use a dummy ticket or fake hotel booking?

No. Consulates warn against falsified bookings and insurance, and a fake can lead to refusal. Use a reservation you can verify, with a booking reference that matches the airline or hotel. Choose one that can be cancelled free of charge if the visa is refused.

How much validity must my residence permit have?

It varies by destination and is stated on each embassy's page. As a rule, renew early if your permit is close to expiry, because a short validity is a common reason for delay. Check the rule for your country before booking flights.

Do I need travel insurance for a Schengen visa?

Yes. Article 15 of the Visa Code sets the minimum cover at EUR 30,000, valid across the Schengen states for the whole stay. Other destinations set their own rules, so read the page for your country.

Do I need a cover letter?

Only if the embassy asks, or if your situation needs explaining, such as a first trip, a gap in employment or a sponsor. Keep it to one page: purpose, dates, who pays and your ties to the UAE.
