What size bus do you need? Seats, luggage and real capacity for group transport in the UAE

Pick the bus by passengers plus luggage. A Toyota Hiace carries 12, a Mercedes Sprinter 13 or 19, a Toyota Coaster 22, and partner coaches 35 or 50. Seats are not the whole story: a 50-seater with full suitcases carries fewer people. Send Assure your group size and bag count on WhatsApp.

Quick answer: bus size by group size

Pick the vehicle by passengers and by suitcases, because the luggage hold runs out before the seats do. This table matches group size to vehicle.

Group Vehicle Supplied by Large suitcases
7 to 12 Toyota Hiace Partner network about 3
7 to 13 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, 13 seats Assure fleet about 6
14 to 19 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, 19 seats Assure fleet about 3
14 to 22 Toyota Coaster Partner network none in a hold
23 to 32 35-seat coach Partner network about 15
33 to 45 50-seat coach Partner network about 35

Seat counts exclude the driver. Luggage figures are Assure planning numbers, and coach holds vary by partner. Buses and coaches beyond our own fleet come from partners, when they are free. For 6 or fewer, look at the V-Class and Sprinter comparison.

Why a 50-seater rarely carries 50

Luggage and comfort decide it. Fifty people with one large suitcase each means 50 cases, and the 50-seat coach hold is listed for about 35. Add the driver’s own needs and a guide seat, and 45 passengers is a safer limit. Coaches also stop near their limit in tight spaces, so a few empty seats help at boarding.

Minibuses: Toyota Hiace and Mercedes Sprinter

Toyota UAE calls the Hiace a 13-seater, and 1 seat is the driver’s, so Assure plans 12 passengers. The Hiace takes 3 large cases. The Sprinters are Assure’s own: 13 seats with 6 large cases, or 19 seats with 3. Read Hiace vs Coaster for the Toyota pair. Minibus options are on the minibus rental page.

Midi coaches: Toyota Coaster and 30 to 35 seaters

Toyota UAE lists the Coaster as a 23-seater, and Assure plans 22 passengers. It has curtains and a microphone with amplifier, which suits a guided day. It has no separate luggage hold. The 35-seat coach is the next step, listed for about 15 large cases. Make and model vary by partner.

Full-size coaches: 45 to 50 seaters

The 50-seat coach is air-conditioned, with an underfloor luggage hold listed for about 35 large cases. It suits conferences, large wedding parties and tour groups. See bus rental with driver and the cost view in bus hire cost by seat size.

Luggage holds and when to add a luggage van

Count large cases before you pick a size. If bags exceed the hold, add a van. A 22-seat Coaster carrying an airport arrival always needs one. For mixed arrivals, our group event vehicle guide shows how to split a group across vehicles.

Where large coaches can and cannot stop

We have not confirmed stopping rules for the Dubai International coach areas, so ask us which point suits your terminal. Hotel driveways, old streets in Deira and Bur Dubai, and mall entrances are tighter than a motorway. If a 50-seater cannot reach the door, we plan a drop-off point and a shuttle. Wedding runs are covered in wedding guest shuttle planning, and tour groups on our private tours.

RTA rules for passenger buses and drivers

Passenger transport in Dubai is regulated by the RTA, and staff buses fall under separate rules, covered in worker transport rules in the UAE. We have not independently verified the licence status of every partner operator, so ask for confirmation of the vehicle and driver when you book. Corporate buyers can start at our corporate service, then send the group size and bag count on WhatsApp to +971 56 684 8148.

Questions and answers

What size bus do I need for 20 people?

For 20 people with cabin bags only, the 22-passenger Toyota Coaster seats everyone. With suitcases, the Coaster has no separate luggage hold, so add a second vehicle for bags. The 19-seat Mercedes Sprinter falls one seat short for 20. A 35-seat coach gives room for both people and cases.

How many people really fit on a 50-seat coach?

Seat for seat, 50, but with luggage plan on about 45 people. Assure lists the 50-seat coach with an underfloor hold for about 35 large suitcases, and the make varies by partner. If every passenger brings a large case, the hold fills first. Send the bag count and we check it.

How much luggage fits in a 35-seat coach?

Assure lists the 35-seat coach for about 15 large suitcases, but the make, model and hold vary by partner. Confirm the hold before booking an airport run. For an arrival group where each passenger has a large case, a separate luggage van is often the safer plan.

Do I need a luggage van for an airport group?

Add one when large suitcases outnumber what the vehicle's hold takes. A 13-seat Sprinter carries 6 large cases, a Coaster none, a 35-seat coach about 15 and a 50-seat coach about 35. Count the bags first, then choose the bus.

Can a big coach stop at hotel entrances and old Dubai streets?

Not always. A 50-seat coach needs a wide entrance and turning room, and narrow streets in older districts can rule it out. Tell us the hotel or venue and we plan the stop. Where a coach cannot reach, a Sprinter or Coaster can shuttle guests the last stretch.

Is a chauffeur-driven bus the only legal option for hire in Dubai?

Assure supplies buses with a driver only. Passenger transport in Dubai is regulated by the RTA, and a licensed operator handles driver and vehicle compliance. Ask any supplier to confirm its licence before booking. We do not state licence details for partner operators beyond what they confirm to us.
