From May to September the morning is the better desert slot, but it needs an early start. In mid-June the sun rises at about 5:28 am, and the sand heats quickly after that. On a private trip, ask for a 6 am pickup and keep the dune drive short.
Age, health and what to bring
- December to February: a light layer for the 7 am start, which you will take off by 10 am.
- All year: sun cream, sunglasses and a hat, because there is little shade on the dunes.
- Shoes: sandals or trainers for the dunes, and closed shoes if you add a quad bike or buggy.
- Food: a light breakfast before pickup, and water. There is no camp meal on a morning trip.
- Children: under-4s must ride in a child seat in the UAE. Give every child’s age and weight when you book.

After the safari
