Musandam tours from Dubai: Dibba and Khasab

A Musandam tour from Dubai is a day trip to Dibba or Khasab in a private car with a chauffeur, paired with a dhow day on the water. Dibba is about 146 km from Downtown Dubai and Khasab about 195 km. Both trips cross into Oman, so every traveller needs an original passport and Oman entry rights for their nationality.

The day, stop by stop

Times are a guide. Your driver keeps to your group's pace.

  1. Pickup in Dubai

Your chauffeur collects the group from your hotel or home. Every passport travels in the car, children's included.

  2. Drive north-east to Dibba, or north to Khasab

    About 1 h 50 min to Dibba on the E311, E611, E87 and E89. About 1 h 50 min to the Al Darah post for Khasab, on the E311, E611 and E18.

  3. UAE exit and Oman entry

Two stops: the UAE post first, then the Omani post. The time depends on the queue on the day.

  4. Dhow day on the Musandam coast

Dibba trips stay on the Gulf of Oman side. Khasab trips head into Khor Ash Sham, past Telegraph Island.

  5. Border crossings back into the UAE

Dibba or Khasab: the two Musandam trips side by side

Musandam is the tip of the peninsula above Ras Al Khaimah. It belongs to Oman but is cut off from the rest of the country by UAE land, so you reach it by road only through the UAE. Two towns serve as starting points for a day on the water: Dibba on the east coast and Khasab in the north.

Do you need a visa for Musandam?

Yes, unless your passport is exempt, because both trips enter Oman. The Oman Ministry of Foreign Affairs sorts visitors into four groups. Its page was last updated on 22 September 2026.

Your passport Entry into Oman
GCC citizen: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE No Omani visa needed
First list, for example the UK, the US, Germany, France, Russia, China and the Philippines 14-day visa exemption, with the conditions below
Second list, for example India, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Vietnam 14-day exemption only if you live in a GCC country, or hold a valid visa for the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, a Schengen country or Japan
Neither list, for example Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria Not covered by the exemption: apply on the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal before the trip

The ministry lists the exemption’s conditions as a passport valid for at least 6 months, a return ticket, a hotel booking, health insurance and enough funds. The stay cannot be extended. Its page does not say how these conditions are applied to a day trip at a land border. We check the crossing for your whole group before we send a quote, so list every traveller’s nationality when you enquire.

Living in the UAE does not on its own exempt you. In 2022 a Royal Oman Police spokesman told the Oman Observer that GCC residents still need visas, and the passport you hold decides which group you fall in.

Coming back into the UAE on a single-entry visa

GDRFA Dubai describes its single-entry tourist visa as an entry visa for a single visit. ICP issues visit visas as either single entry or multiple entry. If you hold a single-entry visa, crossing into Musandam ends that visit.

To return the same evening, you need one of these:

  1. A multiple-entry UAE visit visa.
  2. A new UAE visa issued for the return.
  3. A passport that gets a UAE visa on arrival.

GCC citizens need no UAE visa. Every passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you re-enter the UAE. Residents should check that their residence visa is valid on the return date.

The road to Dibba

Dibba is split three ways. Dibba Al-Bay’ah is Omani and is one of Musandam’s four wilayats, Dibba Al-Hisn belongs to Sharjah and Dibba Al-Fujairah to Fujairah. The dhows leave from the Omani side, so the car crosses the border before you board.

From Downtown Dubai the chauffeur takes Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) and Emirates Road (E611), then the E87 and the Masafi to Dibba road (E89) down to the coast. That is about 146 km and 1 h 51 min without traffic. Sharjah city is closer, at about 121 km and 1 h 33 min.

If your hotel is on the east coast, look at our Fujairah east coast tour too: it covers the same stretch of shore on the UAE side, without a border.

The road to Khasab

Khasab is the capital of Musandam and sits near the Strait of Hormuz. The route runs north through Ras Al Khaimah on the E18, past Al Rams and Sha’am, to the Al Darah post. That leg is about 150 km and 1 h 50 min from Downtown Dubai. After the Omani post at Tibat, the coast road runs about 45 km through Bukha to Khasab port.

Khasab dhows head into Khor Ash Sham, also called Elphinstone Inlet, the inner inlet of Khasab Bay. Telegraph Island sits less than 400 m off its shore. A British telegraph repeater station worked there from 1864.

With about 5 h 15 min of driving in total, plus four border stops, a night in Khasab is worth considering. For a one-way drop or a stay, see the Dubai to Khasab transfer. You can also pair the drive north with a morning on Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah on the way back.

What happens at the border

You stop twice in each direction. The UAE post checks your passport and visa on the way out. The Omani post checks your passport and your right to enter Oman. On the way back the order reverses.

The car carries its own papers into Oman. Before we confirm, we check its Omani motor insurance and its registration card for your date. Every other route into Oman, from Hatta to Khatmat Malaha, is covered on our Dubai to Oman transfers page.

Questions to settle about the dhow day

Dhows vary by operator, so your quote names what yours includes. Ask about these before you pay:

  • Lunch on board, and whether vegetarian or other meals can be arranged.
  • The swim and snorkel stops, and whether masks and fins are provided.
  • Shared or private boat. A private dhow suits a family or a group of friends who want their own timings.
  • The boarding time, which sets your pickup time in Dubai.
  • Cancellation terms for the boat and the car, stated in your quote.

Age, health and what to wear

Tell us about anyone who cannot swim, gets seasick or is pregnant. We check the boat and the swim stop with the operator before you pay. Children travel with their own passports and the same entry rules as adults.

Bring swimwear for the boat, and something to wear over it for the border stops and the drive. Winter mornings on deck from December to February can feel cool before the sun is up.

What sets the price

  • Dibba or Khasab, and the drive distance from your pickup point.
  • The car: a GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade for up to 6, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for 13 or 19.
  • A shared seat on a dhow, or a whole boat for your group.
  • Whether the chauffeur waits all day, or drives back and returns the next day.
  • Omani eVisa fees and any new UAE visa, which are paid to the issuing authority.

Every price is quoted on WhatsApp for your date. If you only want the car for a day on your own plan, ask for a car with driver by the hour.

Starting from Fujairah or Ras Al Khaimah airport

Dibba is about 71 km from Fujairah International (FJR), and roughly an hour away. Your chauffeur waits in arrivals with your name on a board: see pickups at Fujairah airport. From Ras Al Khaimah International, Dibba is about 57 km and Khasab port about 103 km.

Dibba or Khasab compares the two ways in, and Musandam border and visa rules covers the border and visa rules.

Questions and answers

Do I need a visa for Musandam?

Musandam is part of Oman, so Oman's entry rules apply at both Dibba and Al Darah. GCC citizens need no Omani visa. The ministry's first list of 78 countries and regions, including the UK, the US and Germany, gets a 14-day exemption, and a second list, including India, qualifies only with GCC residence or certain Western visas. Other passports need an eVisa from the Royal Oman Police before the trip.

Dibba or Khasab?

Pick Dibba for a shorter day: about 146 km from Downtown Dubai, roughly 1 h 50 min without traffic, with the dhow on the Gulf of Oman side. Pick Khasab for the fjords of Khor Ash Sham and Telegraph Island, about 195 km and 2 h 40 min away through Ras Al Khaimah. Khasab days are longer, so a night there is worth considering.

Can I go to Musandam on a single-entry UAE visa?

You can leave, but a single-entry visa covers one visit, so it ends when you cross into Oman. To come back the same day you need a multiple-entry visa, a new UAE visa, or a passport that gets a UAE visa on arrival. GCC citizens need no UAE visa. Check this before you book, because the UAE post checks it on your way back.

Do UAE residents need an Omani visa for Musandam?

It depends on the passport, not the residence alone. A Royal Oman Police spokesman said in 2022 that GCC residents still need visas. The ministry's second list, which includes India, Egypt and Jordan, gets the 14-day exemption when the traveller lives in a GCC country. A resident holding a passport on neither list, such as Pakistan, applies on the ROP eVisa portal.

Can children come on a Musandam trip?

Yes. Every child needs their own original passport, and Oman's entry rules apply to them as well. The ministry says its 14-day exemption also covers the spouse and children of an eligible traveller. For the boat, tell us the ages and whether each child can swim, so we check life jackets and the swim stop with the dhow operator before you pay.

Can the trip start from Fujairah or Ras Al Khaimah?

Yes, and both save driving. Dibba is about 71 km from Fujairah International Airport, roughly an hour up the E99 coast road. From Ras Al Khaimah International it is about 57 km to Dibba, and Khasab port is about 103 km away through the Al Darah post. Send your flight and we time the pickup to the dhow.

How is a Musandam trip priced?

Per car for the drive, and per person or per boat for the dhow. The quote depends on Dibba or Khasab, the car, the number of passengers and a shared or private dhow. It also depends on whether the chauffeur waits all day or comes back the next day. Send the date, the group size and every traveller's nationality on WhatsApp for a quote.
