A sample day on the east coast loop
The Fujairah tour runs clockwise: inland to Masafi, south to Fujairah city, then north up the coast to Al Aqah. Drive times are free-flow figures from OpenStreetMap routing. Your driver changes the order on the day if your group wants the snorkel first.
| Stop | What you see | Time there | Drive from the stop before |
|---|---|---|---|
| Friday Market | Carpets, pottery, plants and fruit stalls on the Dhaid road | 30 min | 109 km from Downtown, 1 h 28 min |
| Fujairah Fort | 16th-century fort on a rocky hill above the old town | 45 min | 41 km, 41 min |
| Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Fujairah | 65 domes and 6 minarets on Mohammed bin Matar Road | 15 min, photos outside | in Fujairah city |
| Khor Fakkan corniche | The bay, the beach and lunch | 1 hour | 26 km, 26 min |
| Al Bidya Mosque | Four-domed mosque from about 1446 | 30 min | 14 km, 17 min |
| Al Aqah beach | Snorkel trip to Snoopy Island | about 2 hours | 5 km, 7 min |
| Back to Dubai | Khor Fakkan Road through the Hajar Mountains | 146 km, 1 h 56 min |
That is about 341 km in total and about 4 hours 55 minutes at the wheel before traffic. Evening traffic on Emirates Road into Dubai lengthens the last leg, so the drop-off time is an estimate.
The road out through Masafi and Wadi Ham
From Dubai the car takes Emirates Road (E611) to the E88 Al Dhaid road. The Friday Market stands about 5 km before Masafi. Despite the name, its stalls open every day of the week.
Masafi itself straddles the border between Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. From there the road drops down Wadi Ham, on the E88 and then the E89. Fujairah Tourism calls it the longest wadi in the country, at 30 km from Masafi to the dam. Al Bithnah Fort, built in 1735, stands near this road about 13 km before Fujairah city.
What to see between Fujairah city and Al Aqah
Fujairah Fort sits about 20 m up on a rocky hill in the old town. It has three round towers and one square one, and was restored between 1997 and 2000 with the materials it was first built from: rock, gravel, mud, hay and plaster. Fujairah Museum is close by.
Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah opened in 2015 and holds about 28,000 worshippers, the second-largest mosque in the UAE. It stands in the same city as the fort, and a photo stop outside the white domes takes about 15 minutes.
Al Bidya Mosque (also spelled Al Bidyah or Al Badiyah) is about 35 km north of Fujairah city on the Dibba road. Its four domes rest on one central column, and the building uses no wood. Two old watchtowers look down over the mosque and the village.
Snorkelling at Snoopy Island
Snoopy Island is a rock island just off Al Aqah beach. Its outline is said to look like the cartoon dog Snoopy lying on his back, and the coral reef around it draws snorkellers, divers and kayakers.
Fujairah Tourism notes that most hotels on the coast can arrange snorkelling and diving. We add a snorkel trip to your day on request. Your quote names the operator on Al Aqah beach, the time slot and the gear it supplies, so you know before you book.
Snorkelling here is in open water in the Gulf of Oman. Each snorkeller should be able to swim. The operator sets its own minimum age, so give the age of every child when you ask.
Why Khor Fakkan belongs to Sharjah
Khor Fakkan is part of Sharjah, not Fujairah, though Fujairah land surrounds it. The town faces the Gulf of Oman with the Hajar Mountains behind it, and its corniche is the lunch stop on this loop.
The drive home uses the Khor Fakkan Road west through the mountains to Emirates Road. Al Rafisah Dam sits beside that road, and a 15 minute stop there breaks the drive. Above the town, the Al Suhub Rest House looks over Khor Fakkan from 580 m above sea level.
Age, health and dress on this trip
- Mosques: Al Bidya still holds daily prayers. Cover shoulders and knees, women bring a headscarf, and plan the stop between prayer times.
- The snorkel: only for swimmers, with the operator’s own age and health rules on the day. Tell us about any heart or breathing condition before we book it.
- Long hours in the car: about 5 hours of driving in one day. With young children, drop the Friday Market or the Fujairah city stop to shorten it.
- Summer heat: from June to September, the fort and the market are best kept short. Carry water for every stop.

Questions and answers
How far is Fujairah from Dubai?
Fujairah city is about 120 km from Downtown Dubai, roughly 1 hour 30 minutes without traffic on OSRM figures. The Al Aqah beach hotels near Snoopy Island are further, about 147 km and just under 2 hours. The full east coast loop on this trip covers about 340 km, with close to 5 hours of driving before traffic.
Can you snorkel at Snoopy Island?
Yes. Snoopy Island is a small rock island off Al Aqah beach, ringed by coral reef, and a popular snorkel spot on the Fujairah coast. We add a snorkel trip to your day on request. Your quote names the operator on Al Aqah beach, the time slot and the gear it supplies.
Is Al Bidya the oldest mosque in the UAE?
Fujairah Tourism describes it as the oldest mosque in the country, and Fujairah's Archaeology and Heritage Department dated it to 1446. It is built of stone and burnt clay, with four low domes resting on a single central column. It still holds daily prayers, so plan your visit between prayer times and dress modestly.
Is Khor Fakkan part of Fujairah?
No. Khor Fakkan belongs to the emirate of Sharjah, even though Fujairah surrounds it on land. The town sits on the Gulf of Oman between the sea and the Hajar Mountains, about 26 km north of Fujairah Fort. The trip uses the Khor Fakkan Road back to Dubai, past Al Rafisah Dam.
Do I need a passport for the Fujairah tour?
The loop stays inside the UAE, with no border post on the route. Carry your passport or Emirates ID all the same. Dibba, about 25 km north of Al Aqah, sits on the border with Oman, and the Royal Oman Police lists it as a land port. Crossing there is a separate day, our Musandam trip.
Can the Fujairah trip be done in half a day?
Not as a loop. The driving alone is close to 5 hours without traffic. A shorter day can drive straight to Al Aqah, about 147 km from Downtown, for the snorkel and Al Bidya Mosque, then come back. That still runs about 8 hours, because the drive each way takes close to 2 hours.
Can the day end at Fujairah airport or an Al Aqah hotel?
Yes, because the car is yours for the day. Al Aqah to Fujairah International (FJR) is about 45 km, 47 minutes down the E99 without traffic. A drop at an Al Aqah beach hotel saves the 146 km drive back to Dubai. Tell us the end point when you ask for the quote.
