Where is left luggage at DXB, and what does it cost?
Dubai International runs short-term baggage storage in all three terminals, open 24 hours. Each counter sits on the arrival level, so you can drop bags straight after reclaim. Dubai Airports quotes every rate for up to 12 hours.
| Terminal | Operator and spot | Standard bag | Non-standard or valuable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terminal 1 | dnata Baggage Services, arrival level, near Boots Pharmacy and Etisalat | AED 40 | AED 50 |
| Terminal 2 | dnata Baggage Services, arrival level | AED 40 | AED 50 |
| Terminal 3 | Emirates Left Luggage, arrival level, near Exit 1, behind Boots Pharmacy | AED 35 | AED 40 |
A standard bag is up to 21 x 24 x 11 inches. That is a big cabin case, not a checked suitcase. A full-size suitcase is charged at the higher rate.
Dubai Airports does not publish a rate beyond 12 hours or a list of banned items on its baggage page. Ask the counter both questions before you hand over a bag. These figures also match a Gulf News report from July 2024, but prices change, so confirm on the day.
Which terminal will you use?
Store bags in the terminal where you land, because the counters are not linked airside. Emirates flies from Terminal 3. Most foreign airlines use Terminal 1, and flydubai is based at Terminal 2. Our guide to every UAE airport sets out which airline uses which terminal.
If you leave from a different terminal, plan the extra drive. Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 is a road trip, not a corridor, and the 12-hour clock keeps running.
Can your hotel keep bags after checkout?
Most hotels will hold bags at the front desk, but each sets its own limit and fee. Ask for a tag and a receipt, and ask until what time the desk is staffed.
This works well for a late flight after a morning checkout. It works badly on a layover, because your hotel is not your arrival point. You would need to reach it before you can drop anything.
City storage options near Downtown, the Marina and Deira
Storage in the city is run by hotels, malls and booking apps, and their terms differ. We have not checked any of them, so we name none here. Before you choose one, ask three things:
- Which hours is it staffed, and is there a cut-off for collection?
- Is there a size limit or a fee for suitcases, golf bags or prams?
- Is there a receipt, a tag number, and a stated insurance cover?
If you plan to move around between sights, bags in a storage point mean going back for them. That is often slower than keeping them in the car.

Can bags stay in the car during a day out?
Yes, if you arrange it at booking. On a car with driver by the hour, your bags ride with you from the airport, and you never queue at a counter. Tell us on WhatsApp how many cases you have and that they will stay on board. We match the car to the luggage and confirm the stops.
A sedan takes about 2 large suitcases. A V-Class takes about 4. Our capacity guide lists every vehicle. For a short city loop with a layover, our Dubai city tour is the set route, and the car can collect you at arrivals.
Transport from the airport is covered on our DXB airport transfer page. Large or awkward items such as golf bags are a separate question, because they change the car you need.
What if you only have hand luggage?
Hand luggage is the simplest layover. You keep it on you and skip the counter. On the Dubai Metro each rider may carry up to 2 pieces of luggage, hand luggage included, according to Dubai Airports. The Red Line serves Terminals 1 and 3.

What can’t you store?
Dubai Airports does not publish a prohibited-items list for storage. Treat this as the rule of thumb:
- Keep passports, tickets, medicines, power banks and cash on you.
- Do not leave anything you could not replace in a bag with a lock you do not control.
- Ask the counter about batteries, electronic cigarettes and liquids, which airlines restrict in checked baggage.

Getting back in time
Dubai Airports advises arriving 3 hours before departure. Count that backwards from your flight, then add the return drive. From the Terminal 1 car park it is about 15 km to Downtown Dubai, 17 minutes without traffic. From Terminal 3 it is about 21 km, 32 minutes (OSRM, OpenStreetMap). Add time for the bag counter queue.
Our layover guide turns this into hour-by-hour plans. For the buffer before a flight, see airport departure timing. If your connection is on separate tickets, read the self-transfer guide, and if you are comparing airports, the guide to Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi helps.
