Dubai to Oman taxi fare and cross-border chauffeur cost: what is included

A private chauffeur trip from Dubai to Muscat, Riyadh, Doha or Manama is quoted per route, not on a meter. The price follows distance, vehicle class, border costs, foreign insurance, and whether the driver waits, stays overnight or returns empty. Assure sends a quote on WhatsApp once it has your date, pickup, drop-off and passenger nationalities.

What goes into the price of a cross-border chauffeur trip?

A cross-border trip has no meter. Each route is quoted on its own, because the costs behind it differ from one border to the next. The table shows what moves the quote, and what we need from you to fix it.

Price factor What it depends on Example from Dubai
Distance and driving time Road km and hours at the wheel Muscat about 409 km, Doha 695 km, Manama 837 km, Riyadh 1,055 km
Vehicle class Saloon, SUV or van GMC Yukon seats 6 with 3 large suitcases, Mercedes-Benz V-Class seats 6 with 4
Border costs Exit fee, visas, vehicle papers UAE exit fee reported at AED 35
Foreign insurance Cover valid in the country entered Orange Card for Oman from about AED 106
Trip shape One way, return, waiting An empty drive home or a driver’s night away
Time and day Early start, night drive, holiday Eid and National Day weekends

Distances are OSRM figures on OpenStreetMap data from Downtown Dubai to the city centre, measured on 17 October 2026, without traffic or border waits. Our driving distances guide lists the full set.

One way, return or with waiting: how each is priced

One way. The car drives you out, then drives home empty, back through the same border posts. A one-way Dubai to Muscat drop is about 409 km each way for the car, even though you ride one way.

Return the same day. The driver waits near your destination and brings you back. This suits Hatta and Sohar, where a day trip is practical. It does not suit Riyadh, where the outbound drive alone is about 10 h 30 min.

Return with waiting. You meet in Muscat for two days, and the driver and car stay. Waiting time is a separate line, since the car is not earning elsewhere.

Open return. You tell us the return date later. This works only if the car and driver are free that day, so we confirm it, not assume it.

The first question on WhatsApp is usually “one way or return?” Answering it up front gets you a firmer quote.

Border fees, visas and insurance: who pays what?

Some border costs are yours, tied to your passport. Others belong to the car.

Yours, by passport:

  • The UAE exit fee. Gulf News reported AED 35 in May 2026 and said it is paid at the UAE post. We found no ICP or u.ae page that states the amount, so treat it as reported.
  • An Oman visa. The Oman Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists a 14-day exemption for citizens of more than 100 countries. Gulf News reports OMR 5 for 28 days for approved UAE resident professions at land borders.
  • Saudi, Qatar or Bahrain entry. These depend on nationality. Saudi eligibility is on the KSA Visa platform, and Qatar’s rules and vehicle registration are on Visit Qatar and Hayya.

The car’s:

  • Motor cover valid in each country entered.
  • The registration card, and a no-objection letter from the registered owner where needed.
  • Permission to carry paying passengers across the border.

On a chauffeur trip we handle the car’s side, and we check it before the booking is confirmed. You bring valid passports and visas. Our UAE land border checklist lists every paper, and the guide to UAE and Oman crossings shows which post suits which route.

We have not confirmed fixed Saudi, Qatari or Bahraini border fees for private cars on an official page. Ask us what a quote includes before you book.

Tolls on the way out of the UAE

Tolls are small beside the distance, but they are real.

  • Dubai. Salik gates charge AED 6 at weekday peaks and AED 4 off-peak, according to the Salik Annual Report 2025. Whether you pass one depends on the start point.
  • Abu Dhabi. The Ghantoot and Al Qurm gates charge AED 4 per crossing, from 4 May 2026, according to Abu Dhabi Mobility. Trips to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain run along the E11 past Abu Dhabi.

VAT on the service is its own question. Read our guide to VAT on chauffeur services in the UAE.

Saloon, SUV or van: price per seat for families and groups

The vehicle sets both the price and how much you can carry across a long road.

Vehicle Passengers Large suitcases Fits
GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade 6 3 A family of 4 to 5 with bags
Mercedes-Benz V-Class 6 4 A team or a family with more luggage
Saloon, such as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class 3 in the rear Fewer Two to three business travellers

Splitting a van across 6 people can cost less per person than a saloon for two. Bigger groups use partner vehicles, available through our partner network, subject to availability. See our vans page and the chauffeur cost guide for Dubai for how local pricing works.

Driver overnight stays and multi-day trips

Some routes are too long for one driver in one day. Dubai to Riyadh is about 1,055 km, or 10 h 30 min of driving without traffic, before two border posts. For these we plan one of two ways:

Cars on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai heading towards the towers of the Marasi area

  1. A second driver who shares the road, so the car reaches Riyadh the same day.
  2. An overnight stop on the way, usually in the Eastern Province, with the driver’s rest night added to the quote.

Muscat and Doha are shorter. Dubai to Muscat is about 4 h 43 min at the wheel, and Dubai to Doha about 6 h 38 min. Both run as one-day trips, with the driver resting the night at the destination if you stay.

Companies moving staff or delegations can set up a monthly account through corporate transport.

How to get a fixed quote on WhatsApp

Send these seven items to +971 56 684 8148:

  1. Pickup point in the UAE (airport, hotel or home)
  2. Destination in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Bahrain
  3. Date and time
  4. One way or return, and the return date
  5. Number of passengers and bags
  6. Each passenger’s nationality and country of residence
  7. Whether you need the car to wait

You get the quote for the route and the car on WhatsApp. For the routes themselves, see Oman by road, Saudi Arabia by road, and the Dubai to Doha transfer. The Dubai to Muscat by road guide walks the Oman trip stage by stage. Trips inside the UAE are intercity transfers. The full set of Gulf destinations is on the cross-border transfers page. Every route is available on request and confirmed per trip.

Questions and answers

How much is a taxi from Dubai to Oman?

There is no meter rate for it. A cross-border trip is quoted per route, because the price depends on the destination (Hatta border, Sohar or Muscat), the car, the borders crossed and whether the driver returns the same day. Assure does not publish fixed prices. Send the pickup, destination, date and passengers on WhatsApp and the quote comes back there.

Is the UAE exit fee included in a cross-border quote?

Gulf News, in an explainer updated in May 2026, reports a UAE exit fee of AED 35 for people leaving by road. Whether it sits inside a quote depends on the operator, so ask. With Assure, ask us which border costs a quote lists and which you pay at the post. We confirm this per trip before you book.

Why does a one-way trip cost nearly as much as a return?

The car still has to get home. Dubai to central Muscat is about 409 km and Dubai to Riyadh about 1,055 km, so a one-way drop pays for an empty drive back through the same border posts unless the car picks someone up there. That is why the return leg, or a driver overnight, changes the quote.

Who pays for the driver's hotel on a multi-day trip?

On a trip that stays overnight, the driver's rest night is a cost of the trip, and it is priced into the quote or listed beside it. For Riyadh, at about 10 h 30 min of driving each way, a second driver or an overnight stop is part of how we plan the trip. Ask for the quote to show it.

Do I need Oman car insurance for a chauffeur trip?

The car needs cover valid in the country it enters. Gulf News reports that many UAE comprehensive policies already include Oman, and that an Orange Card can be bought at the border for at least 5 days from about AED 106. On a chauffeur trip, we check the car's cover and papers before the booking is final.

Is a van cheaper per person than a saloon car?

Per seat, usually yes, once you fill it. A saloon carries 3 passengers in the back. A Mercedes-Benz V-Class seats 6, so the same borders and driver time are shared across more people. Bags decide the limit: a V-Class takes 4 large suitcases, a GMC Yukon takes 3. Larger groups can use partner vehicles, subject to availability.

Can I get a fixed quote before I leave?

Yes, on WhatsApp. Send the date, pickup point, drop-off, number of passengers and each person's nationality and country of residence. The nationalities matter because visas set which border posts and documents apply. We reply with a quote for the route and the car, and confirm the trip only when the car's papers are in place.
